Day 1: Kigali tour and drive to Volcanoes National Park
Get up and enjoy your breakfast at the hotel of your choice/area of residence in Kigali or upon arrival at Kigali International Airport, meet the company representative.
He will take you through what your 2 days Rwanda gorilla trekking tour is all about and later, you start your day with Kigali city tour. Kigali capital city is not only a vibrant commercial city center but it is also rated among a few cleanest and safest cities in Africa.
On Kigali city tour, you will pay a visit to Kigali genocide memorial site which will give you insight into what happened in the 1994 Rwanda genocide. Other places to visit include the art and craft markets and many others.
After Kigali city tour, you will have lunch in your preferred hotel in Kigali and later, you embark on a 2-3 hours’ journey to Volcanoes National Park in Musanze Province.
You will arrive at Volcanoes National Park earlier to check-in at your preferred lodge and in the evening, you will visit Iby’Iwacu Cultural Village for a cultural tour. Day 2: Gorilla Trek in Volcanoes and Return to Kigali City
You are expected to get up as early as possible to prepare so that by 6:30 am you start your day with a tasty cup of Rwanda tea or coffee at your respective safari lodge.
And depending on the location of your lodge, you will be picked up and by 7:30 am, you are at Kinigi which is Volcanoes National Park headquarter where you together with other visitors will be briefed on the set gorilla trekking guidelines.
Because this is a strenuous adventure, you are advised to come with some packed energy-giving snacks, plenty of drinking water (bottled) and walking stick.
Volcanoes National Park consists of 10 habituated groups (Kwitonda, Sabyinyo, Susa A, Karisimbi, 13 Group, Ugenda, Amahoro, Hirwa, Bwenge, and Umubano) but only one will be allocated to you to trek in a group of 8 visitors.
Experienced and an armed park ranger guide will take you through your thrilling primate adventure and you will be joined by trackers, porters in case you hire one to help you carry your heavy luggage.
At 8:00 am, you will hit the jungles of Volcanoes National Park to look out for the gorilla family assigned to you.
This adventure usually covers about 2 to 6 hours however, this depends on your speed of hiking, nature of the habitat and where these apes are located in the course of the day.
What is amazing is that not only will you be filled by magical encounters at mountain gorillas but you will also have a chance to spot out several primates and bird species.
Once you bump into a gorilla family, it is a dream come true! You have only one solid hour to have a magical encounter with these remarkable creatures and also for you to take pictures, learn their behaviors and body gestures among other exciting things.

When to go gorilla trekking in Volcanoes National Park
Volcanoes National Park is best to visit for gorilla trekking during the dry season which occurs in the months of June, July, August, September and December, January, February.
The wet or rainy season is also ideal for gorilla trekking but the challenge is that comes with plenty of rainfall which makes the habitat muddy and steep slopes slippery. The wet season in Volcanoes National Park occurs in the month of March, April, May, and October, November.
